Montana State begins action at College National Finals Rodeo

The College National Finals Rodeo began on Sunday in Casper, Wyoming, with a handful of Montana State representatives taking part in the action.

Caleb Meeks earned a score of 64 in the first round of the saddle bronc riding, putting him in 16th place after the first day.

Molly Salmond (2.7 seconds) and Jacee Currin (2.9 seconds) were tied for 18th and 25th after the first round, respectively, in the breakaway roping. Nate Dearhamer and Chase Runfola did not record scores in the first rounds of their respective events of bareback bronc riding or bull riding on Sunday.

In the tie down roping on Monday, Caleb Berquist recorded a time of 16.1 seconds, which put him in 26th place. Teammate Jase Bustad did not record a time in the event.

After the first go of the barrel racing on Monday, Hailey Garrison is tied for 11th after a run in 14.60 seconds. Tayla Moeykens, the defending national champion in the event, completed her run in 14.79 seconds and is tied for 22nd place. Shai McDonald is in 28th place after a time of 14.89 seconds.
